The Paul Awan Initiative for Development fosters peace around the world with special focus on Africa. Currently, we are active in Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kenya. Our scope is conflict resolution, reconciliation/peacebuilding, conflict transformation, helping international organisations make impact on local communities, and development.
Given our work in the conflict-affected communities of Cameroon (the anglophone conflict area), we are among the most recognized organisations working with the locals to fill the gap created in the education sector. In this regard, we provide youths who are unable to access education as a result of the conflict with vocational education and training. Along side this training, we infuse peace education which is necessary for the return peace and development to the area.
Our educational scheme also covers Cameroonian refugees across the border in Nigeria as well as supporting them with access to other opportunities that ameliorate the impact of the difficult life which has been forced upon them by the conflict.
For the rest of Nigeria, we have training over 213 youths in skills such as computer programming, graphic design, photography, confectionery making, fashion and design, and shoemaking.
As part of our growing influence, we are now part of the PeaceTraining.eu and Peace Education Campaign platforms. Capturing this growing influence, we were recently described by benefitting community as "an established authority in the pursuit of peace and development of the anglophone community of Cameroon".
