PERSONAL SAFETY & SECURITY PRE-DEPLOYMENT HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT HUMANITARIAN TRAINING
OVERVIEW: The 4.5 day, Personal Safety and Security (HEAT-HEMAT) immersive leadership training course, combines the Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT), and Hostile Environment Medical Aid Training (HEMAT). It is a pre-requisite for university researchers, humanitarian organisations, news reporters, photographers and government actors operating in complex crisis environments. The teaching focus provides practical leadership training for individuals and teams operating in the field. Learning to prepare for, respond to, and manage, complex events. HEAT SYLLABUS: 2 Days - Introduction to Crisis and conflict dynamics; Leadership and decision making skills in conflict and crisis; Research & Risk assessment (academic); Extreme stress management; Minimising risk; Vehicle safety; GBV; Personal safety and security; Hotel security; Dynamic attacks - Small arms fire; Heavy weapons response; Drone response; Fieldwork planning; Situational awareness; Kidnap; Escape & Evasion, Hostile crowd dynamics; Mine awareness; Gas response; Intro to basic first aid. (Certificated 3 years)
HEMAT SYLLABUS: 2.5 Days - Medical aid theory; Equipment familiarisation; Scene safety; haemorrhage management; Airway management; Basic life support; CPR with Automated external defibrillation; Wounds and treatment; Spinal injuries/immobilisation; RTA management; Blast and gunshot injuries; Heli-extraction drills; Triage response (mass casualty management assessment exercise). (Certificated 3 years)
