Description

This course focuses on the connections between environment, climate change, peace, and conflict. It is designed to give participants the practical tools and knowledge to understand how environmental issues influence conflicts. Further, we will explore local situations and solutions that could be integrated into the peacebuilding work.
Participants will discuss key topics such as climate-induced migration, environmental justice, and the role of environmental defenders. The training will provide practical approaches to conflict analysis with an environmental focus and real-life examples from professionals working on gender, peace, and climate issues.

Providing peacebuilders with the skills to identify environmental risks is essential for the prevention, management, and transformation of conflicts. That is why we invite you to join and discover how nature can be a critical element of the peacebuilding world.

Objectives

- To understand what connects environment, conflict, and peace while getting to know topics such as environmental and peace activism, climate justice, climate crisis, climate impacts and adaptation, gender impacts and approaches,climate induced migration, human rights and social justice;
- Understand the specifics of environmental conflict as well as the impact of climate change and environmental damages on their communities;
- To provide practical tools and abilities to engage with Global South and North communities and institutions in peace processes by addressing human and environmental rights and violations;
- To showcase best-practises and practical examples of environmental peacebuilders, youth activists and global ngos in order to address conflicts linked to climate change;
- To create a collaborative and respectful space that brings participants together, supporting their shared expertise and knowledge.

Preconditions

We would love to invite people who are:

Professionals and practitioners in peacebuilding, mediation, and conflict prevention fields;
Individuals interested in the interconnections between environment, conflict, and peace;
Activists, environmental defenders and community leaders working on environmental and conflict resolution initiatives;
Educators and trainers aiming to act as multipliers by sharing learned expertise within their networks;
Young leaders or professionals ready to learn about environmental peacebuilding;
Participants from regions directly impacted by environmental conflicts or climate crises.
Anyone ready to act on environmental and peace-related challenges.
