2019 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development – Crisis Response to Peacebuilding: Achieving Synergies
May 14, 2019 – Stockholm, Sweden
The annual Stockholm Forum is dedicated to providing a neutral stage for interdisciplinary interaction amongst specialists from the peace and development communities via a range of workshops, plenary sessions, presentations and informal meetings. The discussion-driven roundtable sessions, which the Stockholm Forum is well-known for, are developed in collaboration with partner organisations and invite active participation from stakeholders at all levels.
The 2019 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development will confront the dilemmas of connecting the compromises and negotiations necessary for immediate stability with the planning and vision necessary for peacebuilding agendas like Agenda 2030 and the UN sustaining peace resolutions. Addressing these dilemmas can inform how humanitarian assistance, security response, development cooperation and peacebuilding can complement each other for more effective national action and international support in fragile situations.
The Forum will be an opportunity to create dialogue between national actors, security practitioners and policymakers that work on “stabilisation” with the diplomats and aid workers engaged in humanitarian aid, development cooperation and peacebuilding. Partly, this is about learning the language from each community, but it will also bring together forward leaning thought leaders from different communities to bridge this divide. This year’s Forum is designed to challenge conventional wisdoms in all sectors. Small, deep-dive workshops and roundtables will present a challenge and explore solutions.
A Public ‘Open Day’ (14 May) will be followed by two invitation-only ‘Focus Days’ (15–16 May).
The Forum is co-hosted by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
